prototype #1
The dominant role of television in our society is a recurring subject in Wendela Loman’s installations. The focus of her research is usually the sculptural element of the television-set as the dominant piece of furniture in a typical living room. By constructing new imagery and/or new visual tools Loman analyzes and investigates TV-related subjects in daily life. This personal imagery consists of minimal sculptural installations, in which (the medium of) video is used as a tool, thus combining image-analysis and aesthetic perception.
In this installation, the television is transformed into an artificial design light, thus stressing the role of the television in a western living room as a hypnotic source of light: it does not transmit any actual information. Simultaneously, it allows a distant and critical view of this audio-visual domestic monarch

TV torens 2006/2007
Multimedia installation
Developed for the duo exhibition “Chickflick” in gallery Sign, and this will the starting point for my graduation work in February
The multimedia installation “Television towers” consists of five black high gloss spray painted pillars. Television screens are situated in the top of each pillar, with there tubes down. Light and sound are taken from television programmes. All five television sets show different images creating choreography of image and sound. With this installation I want to confront the spectator with another look towards television.

Motive Motion 2006
Interactive video projection (collaboration with Sander Houtkruijer)
developed for Menzis care insurance, Groningen
‘Motive Motion’ is an interactive video projection that has been developed after winning the Menzis fund 2006. The task was to develop a work of art for a crowded spot on the ground floor in the premises of Menzis in Groningen.
The dominant presence of the wallpaper in the Menzis building has been chosen as the visual starting point for the projection. Thus the spot becomes, wich firstly a ‘non-spot’ was, linked with the rest of the building.
The wall-paper-motives are moving smoothly over the projection and are showing each day another type of behavior, this in a cycle of 13 different types. This movement is influenced by the position of people who are positioned in front of the projection. The projections transform from almost quiet when there are no people to very press when there are a lot of people in front of the projection. In this way there is a mutual interaction between the work and its spectators.
The wall-paper motives have fixed colours for each day of the week. Together with the 13 different types of behaviour it lasts 3 months before the same behaviour is combined with the same colour.

10 second videos
For this work I wrote a protocol consisting of:
• The video has to be less than 10 seconds in duration.
• I have to appear in the video in person
In a period of two months I have made over a forty videos based on this protocol. The following shows a selection.

Multimedia installation existing of two monitors developed for exhibition ‘audio office’
On the monitors one sees the artist screaming alternately, simultaneously or apart. Rhythm and composition are created through the changing in images on the screens and the use of difference in sound height.
